Liberty County is located in the panhandle of Florida and is part of the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Bristol.

The county is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The county also has a sheriff, a property appraiser, a supervisor of elections, a tax collector, and a clerk of court.

The county is served by the Liberty County School District, which operates three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

The county is home to the Apalachicola National Forest, which covers more than 600,000 acres and is the largest national forest in the state. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and bald eagles.
