Sheriff & Law Enforcement. Liberty County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement across Liberty County, particularly in the unincorporated areas.
Police Departments. Liberty County is primarily served by Liberty County Sheriff's Office, which handles law enforcement duties across Liberty County. In addition to the Sheriff's Office, the Chester Police Department serves the town of Chester, providing law enforcement services within the municipal boundaries.
Law Enforcement & Arrests. Law enforcement services in Liberty County are provided primarily by Liberty County Sheriff's Office, located at Liberty County Courthouse, 111 1st Street East, Chester, MT 59522. Inmate information and current jail roster can be obtained by calling the Sheriff's Office directly during business hours, as Liberty County does not maintain a public online inmate database due to its small size. For arrest records and booking information, citizens may submit public records requests under the Montana Right to Know provisions outlined in Montana Code Annotated § 2-6-102, which establishes the presumption that government records are public unless specifically exempted. Within Liberty County, the town of Chester does not operate a separate municipal police department; all law enforcement is handled by the Sheriff's Office and the Montana Highway Patrol, which maintains jurisdiction over state highways including U.S. Highway 2. Register with the county election administrator (the county election office) or through the Montana Secretary of State. Montana has no online voter registration. Regular registration closes 30 days before the election; after that, late registration in person with the county election administrator is available (MCA 13-2-304).
Deeds and other recorded land documents in Liberty County are kept by the Liberty County Clerk and Recorder. Property values are set by the Montana Department of Revenue, and tax bills come from the county treasurer. Source: official state page.
