Renville County is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners. The board is elected at-large and serves four-year terms. The board meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
Renville County is located in the north-central region of North Dakota. It is bordered by McHenry County to the north, Ward County to the east, Mountrail County to the south, and Burke County to the west. The county seat is Mohall. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,470. The county was created in 1873 and named for Joseph Renville, a fur trader and interpreter for the Dakota Indians. The county is home to the Turtle Mountain State Forest, which is the largest state forest in North Dakota. The county is also home to the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, which is the home of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
