Idaho's Public Records Act lets anyone inspect public records, the first two hours of staff time and the first 100 pages cost nothing, and copies beyond that are charged at actual cost. The iCourt Portal is free to search, a certified Idaho birth or death certificate costs $16, and county recorders charge per-page fees for deed copies.
Ask the Sandpoint police department records clerk for reports if the city has its own force; most small Idaho towns are covered by the Bonner County Sheriff's Office, which keeps reports for the area. Crashes worked by the Idaho State Police are requested from the ISP, and Idaho Code 74-124 lets agencies withhold active investigation records.
Cases filed in Bonner County are heard by the Idaho District Court and its magistrate division for the county. The iCourt Portal on isc.idaho.gov searches Idaho trial court cases free, and the clerk of the district court sells copies of filed documents.
Deeds, mortgages and plats are recorded by the Bonner County Recorder, part of the county clerk's office. The Bonner County Assessor sets property values, and the Bonner County Treasurer mails tax bills by the fourth Monday in November and collects payments.
