New York residents can register to vote online at https://voterreg.dmv.ny.gov/MotorVoter/ or by submitting a paper voter registration form available from the Board of Elections, public libraries, or the DMV. Registration deadlines are 25 days before an election for in-person or online registration, and 10 days before for changes of address within Sullivan County. However, all U.S. House seats are contested every two years, and Thompson is in New York's 19th Congressional District as of 2022 redistricting. Sullivan County offices on the 2026 ballot will likely include County Legislature seats, Sullivan County District Attorney, and possibly County Clerk depending on term cycles. Town Supervisor and Town Board seats are contested in odd-year November elections (2025, 2027, etc.), not 2026. New York voters can request absentee ballots by submitting an Absentee Ballot Application to the Sullivan County Board of Elections; applications are available at https://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingAbsentee.html. The state permits absentee voting for temporary illness, permanent illness or disability, absence from county on election day, or duties related to primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled. Early voting is available at designated sites in Sullivan County for nine days before Election Day. New York does not have permanent vote-by-mail or no-excuse absentee voting; absentee voters must state a qualifying reason on their application.
