Walworth County is located in the northeastern corner of South Dakota and is part of the Great Plains region. The county was established in 1873 and is named after James W. Walworth, a former U.S. Senator from New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,818. The county seat is Selby.
The county government is made up of three elected commissioners, a state's attorney, sheriff, auditor, treasurer, and register of deeds. The county also has a number of departments and offices, including the Highway Department, Emergency Management, and Weed and Pest Control.
