The county is governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. The county's executive is the County Clerk, who is elected in November of even-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.

The county is divided into seven townships: Big Creek, Hartville, Logan, Mountain Grove, Norwood, Wright, and Wright City.

The county is served by the Wright County R-II School District, which includes the towns of Hartville, Mountain Grove, and Norwood. The district has one high school, one middle school, and four elementary schools.

The county is also served by the Wright County Public Library, which has branches in Hartville, Mountain Grove, and Norwood.
