Dexter, Kentucky Public Records

Kentucky voters can register online through the Kentucky State Board of Elections at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb/, in person at the Calloway County Clerk's office, or by mail using the National Mail Voter Registration Form. State law requires registration at least 29 days before any election. Acceptable identification includes a Kentucky driver's license, Social Security number, or other government-issued ID. Same-day registration isn't available in Kentucky. As an unincorporated community, Dexter doesn't hold municipal elections for mayor or city council. Instead, residents vote in Calloway County elections for County Judge/Executive, Fiscal Court magistrates, Sheriff, County Clerk, Jailer, and other county offices. These races typically appear on primary ballots in May of even-numbered years and general election ballots in November. Local voters also participate in state legislative elections for the Kentucky House of Representatives (District 5) and Kentucky State Senate, plus federal contests for U.S. House (Kentucky's 1st Congressional District), U.S. Senate, and President. To locate their assigned polling place, residents can use the Kentucky State Board of Elections polling place locator at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/ by entering their name and birth date, or contact the Calloway County Clerk's office. Polling locations are assigned by precinct, and voters must cast ballots at their designated site on Election Day. Kentucky maintains extensive public election records. Voter registration lists are available for purchase by candidates and political organizations under KRS 117.215. Campaign finance reports go to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance at https://kref.ky.gov. Candidate filings are available through both the Calloway County Clerk and Secretary of State, while precinct-level results are published by the Calloway County Clerk and State Board of Elections. In the November 2024 general election, Calloway County reported approximately 19,500 registered voters with turnout of roughly 63% (approximately 12,300 voters) for the presidential race, reflecting Kentucky's strong participation in federal contests. Looking ahead to November 3, 2026, Dexter and Calloway County voters will decide several important races. There is no U.S. Senate seat from Kentucky up for election in 2026 (Senator Rand Paul's term expires in 2028, Senator Mitch McConnell's in 2026 but he has announced retirement and a special election process may occur). The gubernatorial election is not in 2026 (next in 2027). However, voters will elect the entire Kentucky House of Representatives (all 100 seats serve two-year terms), half of the Kentucky State Senate (staggered four-year terms), all of Kentucky's six U.S. House seats, and various county offices in Calloway County that may be up for election depending on term expirations. Residents should check with the Calloway County Clerk in early 2026 for a complete list of races and candidates. Kentucky offers absentee voting for voters who will be absent from the county on Election Day, are ill or disabled, are students residing outside the county, or meet other statutory qualifications under KRS 117.085. Excuse-based absentee voting requires voters to request a ballot from the Calloway County Clerk beginning 45 days before the election. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Calloway County Clerk's office by 6:00 PM on Election Day, either in person, by mail (postmarked by Election Day and received within three days), or by designated representative. Kentucky also offers early in-person voting beginning the Thursday before Election Day through the Saturday before at the Calloway County Clerk's office during designated hours. Residents are encouraged to verify their registration status, review sample ballots, and confirm polling locations well in advance of elections.
