The office is responsible for voter registration, maintaining voter rolls, conducting elections, and providing absentee voting services for all Lee County residents, including those in the Dryden area. Virginia voters can register online at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/Registration/Eligibility, or submit paper applications by mail or in person. The voter registration deadline is 22 days before any election. To register, applicants must be U.S. citizens, residents of Virginia, at least 18 years old by the next general election, and not currently declared mentally incompetent by a court or convicted of a felony (unless rights have been restored). A valid Virginia driver's license number or Social Security number is required for registration. Because Dryden is unincorporated and has no municipal government, residents do not vote in city or town elections. Instead, Dryden voters participate in Lee County, state, and federal elections. Lee County holds elections for the Board of Supervisors, Constitutional Officers (Sheriff, Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer, Commonwealth's Attorney, Clerk of Circuit Court), and School Board members according to Virginia's election calendar. Virginia holds elections in November of odd-numbered years for state legislature and local offices, and in even-numbered years for federal and statewide offices. In the November 2024 presidential election, Lee County reported approximately 61% voter turnout, with the county strongly supporting Republican candidates, consistent with the region's voting patterns. Looking ahead to the November 3, 2026 general election, Dryden and Lee County voters will decide several important races. Virginia does not have a U.S. Senate seat up for election in 2026 (Senator Warner's term expires in 2027 and Senator Kaine's in 2025). The governor's race is not on the 2026 ballot as Virginia holds gubernatorial elections in odd-numbered years; the next governor's race is in 2025. However, 2026 will feature elections for Virginia's U.S. House of Representatives seats—Dryden is in Virginia's 9th Congressional District. All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates will be on the ballot in 2025, not 2026. In 2026, voters will also decide certain Lee County constitutional officer positions and Board of Supervisors seats depending on the term schedule. Virginia offers absentee voting both in-person and by mail. Any registered voter may vote absentee without providing an excuse. In-person absentee voting begins 45 days before an election at the Lee County Registrar's office. The application deadline is 11 days before the election (5 PM), and completed ballots must be received by 7 PM on Election Day.
