Citizens, Virginia residents, at least 18 years old by the next general election, and not currently declared mentally incapacitated by a court or convicted of a felony unless rights have been restored. The registration deadline is 22 days before any election. Acceptable ID for registration includes a valid Virginia driver's license or DMV-issued ID, the last four digits of a Social Security number, or a copy of acceptable identification. As an unincorporated community, Evergreen does not hold municipal elections for mayor or town council. Instead, residents participate in Appomattox County Board of Supervisors elections, Virginia General Assembly races, statewide offices, and federal contests.Current federal, state, and local election schedules, ballot contests, candidate filings, and certified results for Evergreen voters are published by the Virginia Department of Elections (https://www.elections.virginia.gov/). To locate their assigned polling place, residents can use the Virginia Department of Elections' lookup tool at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation, which requires entering name and date of birth or locality and precinct number. The county typically operates several polling locations, with voters assigned based on their magisterial district. Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Election Day. Virginia requires voters to show acceptable photo ID, including a Virginia driver's license, U.S. Passport, employee ID from any federal, state, or local government agency, student ID from a Virginia college, or a voter photo ID card issued by the local registrar. Public election records in Virginia include voter registration lists (available to candidates, political parties, and certain requestors under Virginia Code § 24.2-405), campaign finance disclosures filed with the Virginia Department of Elections and searchable online at https://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-finance-reporting/, candidate filings, and precinct-level results. Election results for the county are posted by the registrar after certification and are also available through the state elections website. While 2026 is an off-year federally with no presidential race, Virginia will not have a U.S. Senate race that year, as both senators (Mark Warner and Tim Kaine as of 2025) are not up for re-election. However, all 11 of Virginia's Residents will elect members of the Virginia House of Delegates if the election cycle aligns and potentially local constitutional officers such as the sheriff, commonwealth's attorney, commissioner of the revenue, and treasurer, depending on term schedules. Voters should check with the Appomattox County Registrar closer to the election for confirmed races and any local referenda. Virginia offers absentee voting by mail and early in-person voting (called "early voting" in Virginia statute). Any registered voter may vote absentee by mail without providing an excuse; applications are available online at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/ or by contacting the Appomattox County Registrar. Absentee ballot applications must be received by the registrar by 5:00 PM on the Friday before Election Day (or by 11:59 PM that day if applying online). Completed absentee ballots must be returned by mail (postmarked by Election Day and received by noon the Friday after) or delivered in person to the registrar's office by 7:00 PM on Election Day. Early in-person voting is available at the registrar's office beginning 45 days before the election and ending the Saturday before Election Day.
