While New York implemented automatic voter registration at the DMV, same-day registration is not available. Identification is required for registration, though the state does not require photo ID at the polls for most voters. As an unincorporated hamlet, the community has no municipal government or local elections for mayor or city council. Voters here also participate in all county, state, and federal contests. Residents can locate their assigned polling place using the New York State Board of Elections locator at voterlookup.elections.ny.gov by entering their address. Most local voters cast ballots at nearby locations such as Bethlehem Town Hall or designated school buildings. New York Election Law makes certain records public, including voter registration lists (available to campaigns and for specific permitted uses), campaign finance reports filed with the state board and searchable at publicreporting.elections.ny.gov, candidate petitions and filings, and precinct-level results. Individual voter history showing whether someone voted, though not their choices, is also public. No U.S. Absentee ballots may be requested for specific reasons outlined in Election Law Section 8-400, including absence from the county, illness, disability, or being a patient in a VA hospital. Applications must be submitted to the Albany County Board of Elections by mail or in person, with deadlines set at ten days before the election for mail applications or the day before for in-person requests.
