The government of Gallatin County, Montana is composed of a Board of County Commissioners, a County Attorney, a County Clerk and Recorder, a Sheriff, a Treasurer, and a Coroner. The Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the county and is responsible for setting policy, levying taxes, and approving the county budget.
Gallatin County is located in southwestern Montana and is the most populous county in the state. It is bordered by Park County to the north, Madison County to the east, Beaverhead County to the south, and Idaho to the west. The county seat is Bozeman. As of the 2010 census, the population of Gallatin County was 90,923. The county covers an area of 5,231 square miles and is home to Montana State University. The county is named after Albert Gallatin, the fourth United States Secretary of the Treasury.
