Police records stay with the agency that made them, such as a city or town police department, a sheriff's office or the state police. What each agency releases, and how fast it answers, differs from place to place.

Where to Request Georgia Police Records
Georgia's Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. 50-18-72(a)(5), sets who may get a crash report; for crashes worked by the State Patrol, ask a State Patrol post or the DPS Open Records Unit. Most sheriff's offices and police departments can print your Georgia criminal history, according to the GBI.
