Missouri residents can register to vote online through the Missouri Secretary of State's website at www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri, by mail using a voter registration application, or in person at the Jackson County Election Board offices or designated voter registration agencies. While Missouri's U.S. Senate seat currently held by Josh Hawley will not appear on the 2026 ballot (it is up in 2024), one of Missouri's eight U.S. House seats will be contested. Though Missouri's gubernatorial election occurred in 2024, numerous state legislative seats will be on the ballot including Missouri State Senate districts (senators serve four-year terms with half up every two years) and all Missouri House of Representatives seats (two-year terms). County offices potentially on the 2026 ballot include various Jackson County Commission seats, county executive, circuit and county judges (if retention elections are scheduled), prosecutor, sheriff, and other constitutional officers depending on term cycles. Local voters may also decide on ballot measures such as school district bond issues, tax levies, or city propositions if placed on the ballot by the city council or citizen petition. Missouri offers absentee voting for voters who will be absent from their jurisdiction on election day, are incapacitated or confined due to illness or physical disability, are caring for a person who is incapacitated or confined, have religious beliefs or practices, are employed as an election authority, or are incarcerated but otherwise qualified to vote. Absentee ballot applications can be submitted online through the Missouri Secretary of State's website, downloaded and mailed to the Jackson County Election Board, or requested in person. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is the second Wednesday prior to the election; in-person absentee voting is available at the Election Board offices beginning six weeks before election day through 5:00 p.m. The day before the election.
