Gregory County is located in the southeastern corner of South Dakota and is part of the Missouri River Basin. The county was established in 1883 and is named after the late Governor of Dakota Territory, Nehemiah G. Gregory. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,271. The county seat is Burke.
The county government is made up of three commissioners, a state's attorney, auditor, treasurer, register of deeds, sheriff, and coroner. The county is divided into three townships: Burke, Gregory, and Spring Creek.
