Hat Creek, California Public Records

The registration deadline is 15 days before Election Day, though conditional voter registration allows eligible citizens to register and vote provisionally during early voting or on Election Day at designated locations. Voters must be U.S. Citizens, California residents, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and not currently serving a state or federal prison term for a felony conviction. As an unincorporated community, Hat Creek has no municipal government and therefore no city council or mayoral elections. Instead, residents vote in Shasta County Board of Supervisors elections for their district representative, along with state and federal races. The county divides into five supervisorial districts, and Hat Creek falls within District 1, which covers the northeastern portion of Shasta County. California operates as a vote-by-mail state, automatically sending mail ballots to all registered voters approximately 29 days before each election. These ballots can be returned by postal mail if postmarked by Election Day, dropped at official drop box locations throughout Shasta County, or delivered to any polling place or vote center on Election Day. In-person voting is available at vote centers during early voting periods and on Election Day itself. Shasta County voters will also decide on their County Supervisor for districts with terms expiring in 2026, county offices such as Sheriff, District Attorney, Assessor, Auditor-Controller, Clerk-Recorder, and Treasurer-Tax Collector depending on term schedules, and any local school board or special district seats. Absentee or mail-in ballot applications are unnecessary in California since all voters automatically receive vote-by-mail ballots, but voters needing a replacement ballot can request one through the Registrar of Voters office or download a ballot application at www.co.shasta.ca.us/elections.
