Citizens and Missouri residents, at least 17.5 years old to register (18 to vote), and not currently serving a felony sentence. Registration must be completed by the fourth Wednesday before any election. Voters are required to show photo identification at the polls, including a Missouri or other state driver's license, U.S. Passport, military ID, or similar government-issued photo ID. As an unincorporated community, Lake Spring holds no municipal elections for mayor or city council. Instead, residents participate in county, state, and federal elections. Dent County voters elect a three-member County Commission serving staggered terms, along with the Sheriff, Assessor, Collector, Clerk, Recorder, Prosecuting Attorney, Coroner, and other county officials. These positions appear on ballots during both presidential and midterm election cycles depending on term schedules. Most polling locations are housed in schools, community centers, or similar public facilities. Missouri law requires certain election records remain public, including voter registration lists available for purchase for political purposes, campaign finance reports searchable at https://www.sos.mo.gov/cfe/, candidate filings, and precinct-level results. During the November 2024 general election, Dent County recorded turnout between 58-62% of registered voters, typical for rural Missouri counties in presidential years. Missouri voters will elect all eight U.S. House seats, all 163 Missouri House seats, and roughly half of the 34 state Senate seats. County voters will also choose county officials whose terms expire in 2026, potentially including County Commission seats, Sheriff, and other offices depending on term rotation. Absentee voting in Missouri is restricted to voters meeting specific criteria: those absent from the jurisdiction on election day, unable to vote due to incapacity or confinement from illness, prevented by religious belief or practice, employed as election authority staff, or incarcerated but otherwise eligible. Absentee ballot applications can be submitted to the Dent County Clerk beginning eight weeks before an election. Missouri does not offer no-excuse absentee voting. In-person early voting is available at the Dent County Clerk's office starting two weeks before election day.
