Palo Pinto County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. The county seat is Palo Pinto. The county was created in 1856 and organized the following year. It is named for Palo Pinto Creek, which flows through the county.

The county government is a Commissioners Court, which is composed of four elected commissioners and a county judge who presides as chairman. The county judge is elected by all voters in the county. The other four commissioners are elected by the voters in each of four precincts.

The county is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area.
