The Elections Administrator is the primary resource for voter registration, polling place information, sample ballots, election dates, and candidate details. Texas residents can register to vote online through the Texas Secretary of State's website at www.votetexas.gov, or by submitting a paper voter registration application available from the county Elections office, libraries, and various state agencies. Applications must be postmarked or submitted at least 30 days before an election for the applicant to be eligible to vote in that contest. Texas requires voters to present one of seven acceptable forms of photo identification when voting in person, including a Texas driver's license, Texas election identification certificate, Texas personal identification card, Texas handgun license, U.S. Military ID card, U.S. Citizenship certificate with photo, or U.S. Passport. Voters lacking acceptable photo ID may vote by presenting a supporting document and executing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. Because Poynor is an unincorporated community, there are no municipal elections for mayor, city council, or city offices. Residents vote in Henderson County elections for county offices (County Judge, Commissioners, Sheriff, County Clerk, District Clerk, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Attorney, and others), state legislative elections (Texas House and Senate districts), statewide offices (Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, etc.), and federal elections (U.S. President, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives). Poynor Independent School District also holds elections for school board trustees, typically in May of odd-numbered years; these elections are administered by Henderson County Elections and prove critical for local governance of the district serving the community. Residents can find their assigned polling place by visiting the Texas Secretary of State's polling place lookup tool at www.votetexas.gov or by contacting the Henderson County Elections office. Polling locations are assigned based on the voter's residential address and precinct. The county typically provides multiple early voting locations in Athens and potentially other areas during the early voting period, which runs from the 17th day through the 4th day before election day for most elections. Election day polling places are precinct-specific. Under Texas public information law, voter registration information is public record with limited personal information redacted. The Elections office maintains precinct-level election results which are public after certification. Campaign finance reports for county and local candidates are filed with the Henderson County Clerk and are public record, while state-level campaign finance data is available through the Texas Ethics Commission at www.ethics.state.tx.us. Candidate filing information, including who has filed for which offices, is available from the Elections office during filing periods. Texas will also elect one U.S.Current federal, state, and local election schedules, ballot contests, candidate filings, and certified results for Poynor voters are published by the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/). Poynor ISD may also have school board trustee positions on the ballot if terms expire in 2026. Texas offers limited mail-in voting, available only to voters who are 65 or older, disabled, out of the county during the election period including early voting, or confined in jail but eligible to vote. Mail-in ballot applications must be received by the Elections office no later than 11 days before election day.
