The city typically has one polling location serving residents for general elections. Missouri election law (Chapter 115 RSMo) makes numerous election records public, including voter registration lists (available for purchase for election purposes), campaign finance reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission (searchable at www.mec.mo.gov), candidate filing information, ballot measure text and financial statements, and precinct-level election results. These records are accessible through the Butler County Clerk, Missouri Secretary of State, and local election authorities. During the November 2024 presidential election, Butler County reported approximately 60% voter turnout among registered voters, with over 18,000 ballots cast countywide. The county has historically leaned heavily Republican in recent presidential and statewide elections. Looking toward the November 3, 2026 general election, voters in the area will decide several important races. At the federal level, Missouri's U.S. Senate seat will not be on the ballot in 2026 (next up in 2028). However, Missouri voters will elect a U.S. Representative for the 8th Congressional District, which includes Butler County and the city. At the state level, all 163 Missouri House of Representatives seats will be on the ballot, including the district serving local residents; approximately half of the 34 Missouri State Senate seats will be contested depending on the election cycle. County-level races in 2026 may include Butler County Commission seats, county clerk, recorder, assessor, and other constitutional offices depending on term schedules. Residents should monitor the Butler County Clerk's website and local media for announcements of candidates and issues as the 2026 election approaches. Missouri offers absentee voting for voters who meet specific criteria including absence from the county on election day, incapacity or confinement due to illness or disability, religious belief or practice, employment as an election authority, incarceration (with retained voting rights), or certified participation in the address confidentiality program. Absentee ballot applications are available from the Butler County Clerk's office and must be submitted by the second Wednesday prior to election day for mail ballots. In-person absentee voting is available at the Clerk's office beginning the second Tuesday prior to election day.
