Reeves County is located in the western part of Texas and is part of the Trans-Pecos region. It is the third-largest county in the state by area, with an estimated population of 14,822 as of 2019. The county seat is Pecos.

Reeves County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member elected from a single-member district. The county judge is the presiding officer of the court, and is elected county-wide. Other members include the county clerk, district clerk, sheriff, and tax assessor-collector.

The county is represented in the Texas House of Representatives by District 81. In the Texas Senate, Reeves County is represented by District 23.

Reeves County is part of the Midland-Odessa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is home to the Pecos River National Wildlife Refuge, Balmorhea State Park, and the Texas State Railroad.
