Registration must be completed 25 days before any election, and since 2020, automatic voter registration has been available through DMV transactions. Voters provide their name, address, date of birth, and either a New York driver license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. Operating under New York Town Law, Sandusky holds elections for Town Supervisor, Town Council members (typically four positions), Town Clerk, and Town Justice in odd-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Supervisor terms run four years while council members serve two-year terms. The town typically maintains one polling location serving all residents, historically at the Sandusky Town Hall, 1263 Main Street. Note that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is up for re-election in 2024, not 2026, while Senator Chuck Schumer's seat is up in 2028. New York allows absentee voting for any qualified voter. Absentee ballot applications must reach the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections at least seven days before an election if requesting by mail, or one day before if applying in person.
