Schuyler County is located in the northeastern corner of Missouri and is part of the Kirksville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Lancaster.
Schuyler County is governed by a three-member County Commission, which is elected in staggered four-year terms. The County Commission is responsible for setting the county budget, levying taxes, and overseeing county departments.
The county is also served by a Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Assessor, Collector, and Public Administrator. The county also has a Circuit Court, Associate Circuit Court, and Probate Court.
The county is part of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, which also includes Adair, Knox, Lewis, Macon, and Scotland counties. The circuit court is presided over by a Circuit Judge, who is elected to a six-year term.
