Sunderland is a small town located in Franklin County, Massachusetts, in the Pioneer Valley region of western Massachusetts, situated along the Connecticut River approximately 10 miles north of Northampton and 20 miles north of Springfield. With a population of 3,663 at the 2020 census and a land area of 14.78 square miles, Sunderland occupies a compact territory in the fertile Connecticut River floodplain, where rich alluvial soils have supported agriculture for centuries.
