Tompkins County is located in the south-central part of New York State. It is part of the Finger Lakes region and is bordered by Cayuga, Cortland, Tioga, and Seneca counties. The county seat is Ithaca, which is also the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. The county has a population of 101,564 as of the 2020 census.
The county is governed by a Board of Supervisors, which is composed of 15 members elected from single-member districts. The board is responsible for setting the county's budget, levying taxes, and enacting laws. The county is also served by a county executive, who is elected by the voters and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the county government.
