Courts. Briscoe County is one of the four counties of the 110th Judicial District, together with Dickens, Floyd and Motley counties. District court records (felonies, larger civil suits, family and juvenile cases) are kept by the Briscoe County District Clerk. County court records (misdemeanors, probate, guardianship and smaller civil cases) are kept by the Briscoe County Clerk at the courthouse in Silverton. The justice of the peace court handles traffic, small claims and evictions.
Property records. Deeds, deeds of trust, liens and plats are recorded in the official public records of the Briscoe County Clerk. Appraised values, ownership and exemptions come from the Briscoe County Appraisal District, and property tax accounts and payments are handled by the Briscoe County Tax Assessor-Collector.
Sheriff and jail. The Briscoe County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement for the whole county, including Silverton and Quitaque, and runs the county jail in Silverton. Custody and booking information comes from the Sheriff.
