Sheriff & Law Enforcement. Chaves County Sheriff's Office is responsible for maintaining law and order in the unincorporated areas of Chaves County.
Police Departments. In addition to Chaves County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement in Chaves County includes the Roswell Police Department, which serves the city of Roswell.
Law Enforcement & Arrests. Chaves County Sheriff's Office, located at 401 W. 2nd Street in Roswell, New Mexico 88201, is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated areas of Chaves County. Chaves County Detention Center, operated by the Sheriff's Office, houses pre-trial detainees and sentenced inmates. Inmate lookups can be conducted by calling the detention center directly or visiting the Sheriff's Office in person during business hours; some inmate roster information may be available through Chaves County's official website at chavescountynm.gov. Arrest records in Chaves County are considered public records under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (NMSA 1978, Sections 14-2-1 through 14-2-12), which requires governmental entities to provide reasonable access to public records.
