Dallas, West Virginia Public Records

Registration closes 21 days before any election. Voters need to provide a West Virginia driver's license or ID card number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number; first-time registrants who sign up by mail may need identification when they cast their ballot. As an unincorporated community, Dallas has no municipal government or city elections. Residents participate in county, state, and federal contests only. Marshall County holds elections for county commission, sheriff, assessor, county clerk, and other county positions on a rotating schedule, typically during November general elections in even-numbered years and May primaries. To find their assigned polling place, Dallas voters can use the West Virginia Secretary of State's lookup tool at https://services.sos.wv.gov/Elections/Voter/FindMyPollingPlace, entering their address to locate their precinct. Early voting runs for 13 days before Election Day and ends three days prior, including two Saturdays, at the Marshall County Clerk's office and designated locations. Public election records in West Virginia include voter registration lists, which are available to candidates and political organizations under certain restrictions, plus campaign finance reports searchable at https://cfrs.wvsos.gov/, candidate filings, and precinct-level results. The Secretary of State's website at https://sos.wv.gov/ posts statewide and county results shortly after certification. In the November 2024 presidential election, Marshall County saw turnout of approximately 60-65% of registered voters, in line with historical patterns for an area that has traditionally leaned Republican in statewide and federal races. Looking to the November 3, 2026 general election, Dallas and Marshall County voters will decide several important contests. West Virginia does not have a U.S. Senate seat up that year (Senator Shelley Moore Capito's seat is up in 2026, and Senator Joe Manchin's successor will be elected in 2024 for a term through 2030). All three U.S. House seats will be on the ballot, with Dallas falling in West Virginia's 1st Congressional District. State races include all 100 seats in the West Virginia House of Delegates and half the state Senate - 17 of 34 seats - as legislators serve staggered terms. County commission seats may also appear, depending on the rotation schedule. Absentee voting is available for those who will be out of the county on Election Day, those with a physical disability or illness, individuals confined to jail pending trial, and military members or overseas civilians. The County Clerk must receive applications no later than six days before the election, and completed ballots must be returned by the time polls close on Election Day. West Virginia also permits early in-person voting without requiring an excuse, as described above.
