Guadalupe County is located in the state of New Mexico and is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,687. The county seat is Santa Rosa.
The county is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners. The current members are:
1. The Battle of Glorieta Pass: In March 1862, Union forces clashed with Confederate forces in the Battle of Glorieta Pass, which took place in what is now Guadalupe County, New Mexico. The battle was a decisive victory for the Union, and it effectively ended the Confederate invasion of New Mexico.
2. The Santa Fe Trail: The Santa Fe Trail, which connected Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed through Guadalupe County. The trail was used by traders, settlers, and travelers from the early 1800s until the 1880s.
3. The Guadalupe Mountains: The Guadalupe Mountains, located in the southeastern corner of Guadalupe County, are a popular destination for hikers and campers. The mountains are home to the highest peak in New Mexico, Guadalupe Peak, which stands at 8,749 feet.
4. The Carlsbad Caverns: The Carlsbad Caverns, located in the Guadalupe Mountains, are a popular tourist destination. The caverns were discovered in 1898 and are home to a variety of unique and beautiful formations.
