Voters need to provide their Missouri driver's license number or last four digits of their Social Security number. Municipal elections for mayor and city council members take place on the first Tuesday in April during even-numbered years, with the next election scheduled for April 2026. Candidates for municipal office file declarations of candidacy with the Shell Knob City Clerk during the filing period in December and January preceding the April election. Residents also participate in Barry County elections, Missouri state legislative elections, and federal elections. The county is represented in Missouri House of Representatives District 157 and Missouri Senate District 29. Polling place assignments can be found using the Missouri Secretary of State's polling place lookup tool at www.sos.mo.gov/elections/pollingplacelookup or by contacting the Barry County Clerk. Missouri allows absentee voting for voters who will be absent from their polling place on election day, are unable to vote due to illness or physical disability, work as an election authority or poll worker, or are incarcerated but eligible to vote. Absentee ballot applications must be submitted to the Barry County Clerk's office by the second Wednesday before the election for mail-in ballots. In-person absentee voting is available at the Barry County Clerk's office beginning the second Tuesday before the election. Election records that are public in Missouri include voter registration lists (available for purchase for election purposes), campaign finance reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission (searchable at www.mec.mo.gov), candidate filing information, and precinct-level election results. The Barry County Clerk maintains historical election results and makes them available upon request.
