The Guadalupe County Elections Administrator serves voters throughout Staples from the office at 211 West Court Street, Suite 205, Seguin, TX 78155, phone (830) 303-3429, website www.co.guadalupe.tx.us/page/guadalupe.elections_administrator. This office administers all federal, state, county, and local elections, maintains voter registration records, processes mail ballot applications, coordinates polling locations, and certifies election results.
As an unincorporated area, the community has no municipal elections for mayor or city council; residents participate in county, state, and federal elections only. Texas residents can register to vote online through the Texas Secretary of State at www.votetexas.gov, or by submitting a paper application to the Guadalupe County elections office. Registration applications must be submitted or postmarked at least 30 days before an election. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, county residents, and at least 18 years old by election day. Texas doesn't require photo ID to register, but voters must present one of seven approved forms of photo identification when voting in person, including Texas driver's license, election identification certificate, personal identification card, concealed handgun license, U.S. Passport, military ID, or citizenship certificate with photo. Voters without acceptable photo ID may sign a reasonable impediment declaration and present supporting documentation. Residents can locate their assigned polling place by visiting the Guadalupe County elections website and using the polling place lookup tool, or by calling the office. Early voting locations are available at multiple sites throughout Guadalupe County, typically including Guadalupe County Courthouse and satellite locations in larger communities. Early voting for primary elections runs approximately two weeks, while general election early voting spans 17 days. Election day polling places are assigned by precinct. In Texas, voter registration lists are public information available for purchase for political purposes, though individual voter history has restricted access. Campaign finance reports for county and local candidates are filed with the Guadalupe County elections office and are public records; state-level campaign finance data is maintained by the Texas Ethics Commission at www.ethics.state.tx.us. Candidate filing information and precinct-level election results are public and posted on the Guadalupe County elections website following certification. The county has historically leaned Republican in statewide races while sometimes supporting Democratic candidates in local contests. At the federal level, Texas will not have a U.S. Senate race in 2026 (next in 2028), but all U.S. House seats including Texas Congressional District 15, which includes portions of Guadalupe County, will be contested.Current federal, state, and local election schedules, ballot contests, candidate filings, and certified results for Staples voters are published by the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/). County-level races in 2026 will include the Guadalupe County Judge (chief executive), County Commissioners for precincts whose terms expire, County Clerk, District Clerk, Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, and County Treasurer, along with judicial positions including district judges and justices of the peace. Voters will also decide on county bond propositions if any are placed on the ballot. Texas offers limited mail ballot voting (called "early voting by mail"), available only to voters 65 and older, voters with disabilities, voters confined in jail but eligible to vote, or voters who will be out of the county during early voting and election day. Applications for mail ballots must be submitted to the Guadalupe County Elections Administrator and received (not postmarked) by the 11th day before election day. Applications can be downloaded from the Guadalupe County elections website or requested by phone. Completed mail ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on election day, not simply postmarked by that date.
