Chesterfield County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its county seat is Chesterfield Court House. The county was formed in 1749 from parts of Henrico County.

Chesterfield County is part of the Greater Richmond Region, and much of the northern portion of the county is considered a part of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The county borders are primarily defined by the James River to the north and the Appomattox River to the south.

The county government is headed by a Board of Supervisors, which is composed of seven members elected from single-member districts. The county is also served by a Sheriff, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Circuit Court Clerk. The county is divided into seven magisterial districts, each of which is represented by an elected supervisor. The county also has a number of constitutional officers, including a Clerk of the Circuit Court, Commissioner of the Revenue, and Treasurer.
