Michigan residents can register to vote online at www.michigan.gov/vote or in person at the township clerk's office up to and including Election Day. Since Michigan implemented Election Day registration in 2018, voters must provide proof of residency such as a driver's license, state ID, or utility bill. The advance registration deadline for mail or online registration is 15 days before an election. Because the community is unincorporated, there are no municipal mayoral or city council elections. Instead, residents vote in Springfield Township elections for township supervisor, clerk, treasurer, trustees, and township board positions. Partisan township positions appear alongside county, state, and federal races on the same ballot. Voters also participate in Oakland County elections for county commissioners, countywide offices including sheriff, clerk, treasurer, and prosecutor, plus circuit and district court judges. Polling place assignments can be found through the Michigan Voter Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote by entering a residential address, or by contacting the Springfield Township Clerk. Springfield Township operates multiple precincts with polling locations at township facilities and local schools. Michigan election records available to the public include voter registration lists, which can be purchased for election related purposes, campaign finance reports accessible through the Michigan Secretary of State at www.michigan.gov/campaignfinance, candidate filings and petitions, and precinct-level election results. The Oakland County Clerk publishes detailed election results by precinct at www.oakgov.com/clerkrod/elections following each election. Michigan's gubernatorial election is on the ballot in 2026, with the governor's seat up for election since Governor Gretchen Whitmer is term-limited and cannot run. Federally, one of Michigan's two U.S. Senate seats may be up depending on the electoral cycle, voters should verify whether 2026 is a Senate election year for Michigan. Oakland County will also elect county executive, county commission positions, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, clerk/register of deeds, treasurer, and water resources commissioner. Springfield Township will elect township supervisor, clerk, treasurer, and four trustee positions. Michigan offers no-reason absentee voting, meaning any registered voter may request an absentee ballot without providing justification. Applications can be submitted online through the Michigan Voter Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote, by mail to the Springfield Township Clerk, or in person at the clerk's office. Absentee ballot applications must be received by 5:00 PM the Friday before Election Day, though ballots can be requested in person at the clerk's office through 4:00 PM on the Monday before Election Day. Completed absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 PM on Election Day; postmarks do not count. Michigan also allows early in-person voting at designated early voting sites during the nine days before Election Day. Voters must present photo ID at the polls or sign an affidavit attesting to their identity if they do not have ID.
