Grant County is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners. The commissioners are elected to four-year terms. The county also has an elected auditor, treasurer, sheriff, states attorney, and register of deeds.
Grant County is located in the northeast corner of South Dakota. It is bordered by Roberts County to the north, Marshall County to the east, Codington County to the south, and Deuel County to the west. The county seat is Milbank. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,356. The county was created in 1873 and is named for Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States. The county is home to the Grant County State Recreation Area, which offers camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
