Kansas State Court Structure:

Kansas' municipal courts have jurisdiction to hear cases involving moving traffic violations, miscellaneous traffic violations, and DWI or DUI matters. Kansas' municipal courts have exclusive jurisdiction to hear cases involving ordinance violations, and other parking violations. Kansas' district courts are its trial courts, with exclusive civil jurisdiction (including civil appeals), and small claims jurisdiction over cases with amounts in controversy of $1,800 or below. The supreme court has mandatory jurisdiction in civil, criminal, administrative agency, disciplinary, certified questions from federal courts, and original proceeding cases.
