Kansas divorces are district court cases under K.S.A. 23-2701, kept by the clerk of the district court in the county of filing. Nothing in Kansas law closes the file. Every party must file a Domestic Relations Affidavit under Supreme Court Rule 139(a), on the form in the appendix of the Child Support Guidelines, and a Child Support Worksheet where child support is at issue; Rule 139 has no confidentiality clause, so the affidavit, the worksheets, the decree and any settlement agreement are public unless sealed.

Sealing is governed by K.S.A. 60-2617: a party requests a hearing, and the court may seal or redact only on an on the record finding that an identified safety, property or privacy interest, or a public or private harm, outweighs the strong public interest in access. The Kansas District Court Public Access Portal is the statewide index for most case types, but its guide states that domestic cases do not appear on it, so a divorce is located and read at the clerk's office.
