Missouri residents have three options for registering to vote: online at https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri, by mail using a voter registration application, or in person at the Election Board office or any Missouri license office. Registration must be completed by the fourth Wednesday before any election. Voters need to provide either their Missouri driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number, and first-time mail registrants may need to show identification at the polls. The city holds municipal elections for Mayor and City Council in April of odd-numbered years, with the next election set for April 2025. These contests are nonpartisan, and residents can find candidate filing details, local ballot measures, and sample ballots through the city website at https://www.nkc.org and the county Election Board. To locate their polling place, residents can use the Missouri Secretary of State's voter information portal at https://voteroutreach.sos.mo.gov/portal or contact the Election Board directly with their address. Missouri law, specifically Chapter 115 RSMo, designates certain election records as public, including voter registration lists available for purchase for election purposes, campaign finance reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission at https://mec.mo.gov, candidate filing information, precinct-level results, and certified outcomes. Clay County demonstrated civic participation in the November 2024 presidential election, with approximately 133,000 registered voters and turnout exceeding 72 percent, numbers that reflect the suburban county's political engagement. The November 3, 2026 general election will bring several important races to local voters. While Missouri has no U.S. Senate seat on the ballot that year, residents will vote for all Missouri House of Representatives seats, which carry two-year terms, and half of the Missouri State Senate seats with four-year terms.
