Sheriff & Law Enforcement. Rockcastle County Sheriff's Office is responsible for maintaining law and order throughout Rockcastle County, particularly in unincorporated areas.

Rockcastle County Sheriff's Office, located at 205 East Main Street, Mount Vernon, KY 40456, is the primary law enforcement agency for the unincorporated areas of Rockcastle County. Arrest records and booking information are maintained by the Sheriff's Office and can be requested under Kentucky's Open Records Act, codified in KRS 61.870 to 61.884, which requires public agencies to provide access to public records within three business days unless specific exemptions apply. Registration books close on the fourth Tuesday before an election (KRS 116.045(2)); for the 2026 general election the last day to register was Monday, October 5, with online registrations due by 4:00 PM local time.
