Texas residents can register online through the Texas Secretary of State at https://www.texas.gov/living-in-texas/texas-voter-registration, submit a printed application by mail, or register in person at the county elections office, driver license locations, or other designated sites. Registration must be completed 30 days before any election. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, Texas residents, at least 18 years old by election day, and not finally convicted of a felony unless sentence, probation, and parole have been completed. Acceptable voter ID includes Texas driver license, Texas election identification certificate, Texas personal ID card, U.S. passport, military ID, or citizenship certificate with photo. Municipal elections for the Town of Addison occur on the uniform election date in May of odd-numbered years for mayor and town council positions, with the next election scheduled for May 2025. The city uses at-large council elections with staggered terms. Residents locate their polling places by entering their address at the Dallas County Elections website's polling place locator or calling the elections office. Under Texas law, voter registration lists are public records available for political purposes, and campaign finance reports filed by candidates and political committees are accessible through the Texas Ethics Commission at https://www.ethics.state.tx.us. Precinct-level results are published on the county elections website. During the November 2024 presidential election, Dallas County recorded approximately 64% voter turnout among registered voters, with over 900,000 ballots cast countywide. The November 3, 2026 general election will feature races for Governor of Texas (Greg Abbott's term expires 2027), all statewide executive offices including Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and other officials, all 150 Texas House seats, even-numbered State Senate districts, Dallas County Judge, county commissioners, district judges, county clerk, district clerk, sheriff, tax assessor-collector, and constables for all precincts, plus any local bond propositions or ballot measures referred by the Addison Town Council. The U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ted Cruz is not up in 2026 (his term expires 2025), but John Cornyn's seat expires in 2027, so no U.S. Senate race will appear on the 2026 ballot. Early voting in Texas begins 17 days before election day and runs through the fourth day before election, with extended hours required on certain days. Texas does not offer "no excuse" absentee voting by mail; mail ballots are only available to voters 65 or older, voters who will be out of the county during the election period, voters who are sick or disabled, or voters confined in jail.
