Brevard County offices and records

Courts. Brevard County sits in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit together with Seminole County. The Brevard County Clerk of Court and Comptroller keeps the files of the circuit court (felonies, larger civil cases, family and probate) and the county court (misdemeanors, traffic and small claims). The main courthouse is the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Justice Center in Viera, with additional courthouses in Titusville and Melbourne. Case indexes are searched online through the Clerk; copies and certified copies come from the Clerk for a per page fee.

Property records. Deeds, mortgages, liens and plats are recorded in the Clerk's Official Records, which can be searched and viewed online. Ownership, assessed value, exemptions and parcel maps are kept by the Brevard County Property Appraiser, and property tax bills and payments are handled by the Brevard County Tax Collector.

Sheriff and jail. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office polices the unincorporated areas of the county, serves civil process and runs the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes, north of Cocoa. Booking and custody information comes from the Sheriff. Cities such as Melbourne, Palm Bay, Titusville, Cocoa, Rockledge and West Melbourne have their own police departments, which keep the incident and arrest reports for the cases they handle.

Vital records. Birth and death certificates are issued by the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County. Marriage licenses are issued by the Clerk of Court, and divorce records are part of the circuit court files kept by the Clerk.
