Marion County is located in the central region of Indiana and is the largest county in the state. It is home to the city of Indianapolis, the state capital. The county was established in 1822 and is named after Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion. As of 2019, the population of Marion County was 945,053.
The county is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected by the citizens of Marion County. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for setting the county budget, levying taxes, and overseeing county departments. The county is also served by a number of elected officials, including a Sheriff, Prosecutor, Clerk, Assessor, and Treasurer.
