Wisconsin residents, including those in the community, can register to vote online at myvote.wi.gov, the state's centralized voter portal. Voters must be U.S. Citizens, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and residents of Wisconsin for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. Wisconsin allows same-day voter registration at the polls on Election Day, but voters must provide proof of residence such as a Wisconsin driver's license, utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck with current address. Online registration closes 21 days before each election; after that, registration is available in person at the municipal clerk (for incorporated municipalities) or county clerk (for unincorporated areas like Rome Town) or at the polling place on Election Day. Acceptable photo IDs are required to vote in Wisconsin, including Wisconsin driver's licenses, state ID cards, military IDs, passports, or tribal IDs. As an unincorporated town, Rome Town does not hold municipal elections for mayor or city council because it has no incorporated city government. Town governance consists of an elected Town Board (town chairman and supervisors) and other town officers such as clerk and treasurer, elected at the spring nonpartisan election typically held on the first Tuesday in April in odd-numbered years. The next town elections will occur in April 2025 and April 2027. Voters also participate in Adams County elections for County Board supervisors, Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, Register of Deeds, and other county offices, as well as state and federal races. Residents can look up their specific polling location, view their sample ballot, check their voter registration status, and request an absentee ballot through the MyVote Wisconsin portal at myvote.wi.gov by entering their name and date of birth. Wisconsin offers in-person absentee voting (early voting) at Adams County Clerk's office and some satellite locations beginning two weeks before Election Day. Mail-in absentee ballots can be requested online through MyVote or by contacting the Adams County Clerk; applications must be received by the Thursday before Election Day, and completed ballots must be returned by 8:00 PM on Election Day to be counted. In the November 2024 general election, Adams County reported voter turnout of approximately 72-75% of registered voters, consistent with rural Wisconsin counties in a presidential election year. The county leaned Republican in most statewide and federal races, reflecting its rural conservative voting patterns. On November 3, 2026, Rome Town and Adams County voters will decide several important races. Wisconsin does not have a U.S. Senate race in 2026 (Wisconsin's Senate seats are up in 2024 and 2028). The Wisconsin Governor's race will be on the ballot in 2026, along with other statewide constitutional offices including Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Treasurer. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly (lower house) are up for election every two years, so the local Assembly district will have a race. Approximately half of the 33 Wisconsin State Senate seats are contested in each election cycle. Adams County will also elect county officers including potentially County Board supervisors (depending on district cycle), Sheriff (four-year term, next up in 2026), County Clerk, Treasurer, Register of Deeds, Coroner, and Surveyor. Rome Town will not have town officer elections in November 2026 as those occur in the spring. Wisconsin election records that are public include the statewide voter registration list (available to candidates and parties with restrictions on use), campaign finance reports filed by candidates and committees (searchable at cfis.wi.gov), candidate nomination papers and declarations of candidacy, and official election results by ward and municipality published by the Wisconsin Elections Commission and county clerks.
