The state requires voters to provide their New York State driver's license number, permit number, non-driver ID, or the last four digits of their Social Security number when registering. New York has closed primaries, meaning voters must be registered with a political party to vote in that party's primary elections; party enrollment changes must be made at least 25 days before the general election to be effective for the following year's primary.
