Residents register to vote through the New York State voter registration system; online registration is available at https://voterreg.dmv.ny.gov/MotorVoter, requiring a valid New York driver license or non-driver ID. Paper registration forms are also accepted and available at the Ulster County Board of Elections, town halls, libraries, and DMV offices. The voter registration deadline in New York is 25 days before any election; the state does not have same-day registration. The next Town of Esopus elections will be held November 4, 2025, for town offices. Local voters also participate in Ulster County elections for County Legislature (districts drawn geographically), County Executive, District Attorney, Sheriff, County Clerk, and other county positions. The hamlet is part of New York's 19th Congressional District (subject to redistricting), New York State Senate District 46, and New York State Assembly District 104 (verify current districts at https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator). On November 3, 2026, residents will decide several important races: New York State Governor (four-year term), all 63 New York State Senate seats including District 46, all 150 State Assembly seats including District 104, Ulster County Executive (four-year term), several Ulster County Legislature seats, and potentially Town of Esopus positions if any special elections occur. No U.S. Senate seat from New York is up in 2026 (next Senate election is 2028). Voters should also expect state referendum questions on the ballot. Absentee ballots in New York are available for voters who will be absent from the county on Election Day, have illness or disability, are primary caregivers to those unable to appear due to illness/disability, are in jail/prison for non-felony offenses, or work at a polling site other than their own. Since 2020, New York has also allowed early voting for nine days before Election Day.
