How to Search County Records

Select Your County

Choose a county from the grid below to access that county's official public records portal, court system, and government offices.

Identify the Record Type

Decide what you need: court records, property deeds, vital records, business filings, or tax assessment records, each is held by a different county office.

Search Online or In Person

The iCourt Portal covers Idaho trial court cases, county recorders such as Ada County offer online document search, and vital records are ordered online through VitalChek or by mail, since the state office has no public counter.

Pay Any Required Fees

An Idaho birth, death, marriage or divorce certificate costs $16; VitalChek adds $10.50, rush service $10 and expedited shipping $21, and under the Public Records Act the first two hours of staff time and first 100 pages are free.

Verify Identity if Required

Open records need no ID. Idaho vital records applications must include a clear copy of a signed, unexpired photo ID, and birth records stay confidential for 100 years.

Idaho County Public Records, questions

Are county records public information?

Yes. Idaho's Public Records Act, Idaho Code 74-101 and following, presumes every public record open, with a response due within three working days, extendable to ten. Court, deed and assessor records are open. Birth records are confidential for 100 years and death, marriage and divorce records for 50 years under Idaho Code 39-270; juvenile and sealed court files are closed.

How much do certified copies cost?

A certified Idaho birth, death, marriage or divorce certificate costs $16 per copy or search from the Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics; VitalChek orders add a $10.50 fee, rush service is $10 per event and expedited UPS shipping is $21. County recorders charge their own copy fees, and Ada County sells extra marriage license copies for $2. Under the Public Records Act the first two hours of staff time and the first 100 pages are free, and copies beyond that are charged at actual cost.

Can I search county records online?

Idaho's iCourt Portal on isc.idaho.gov lets anyone look up cases in the state trial courts and pay fines online. Deeds, mortgages and plats are recorded by each county recorder, and most counties, Ada County among them, offer online document search, with assessors posting parcel data. The state vital records office has no public counter, and certificates are ordered online through VitalChek or by mail, never searched online.

What identification do I need?

Open records need no ID. Idaho vital records applications must include a clear copy of the applicant's signed, unexpired photo identification, and orders with unsigned applications or unclear ID copies are returned. Birth certificates go to the person named, parents, guardians and other eligible relatives, and death certificates to immediate family and others with a direct interest.

How long does it take to receive records?

The Bureau of Vital Records processes standard certificate orders in 3 to 5 weeks and rush orders in 2 to 3 weeks, not counting mailing time; VitalChek customers typically receive certificates sooner. Certificate corrections take 3 to 4 weeks, or 1 to 2 weeks with the $25 rush option. iCourt Portal case information and county recorder searches are immediate.
