About Lake County, California
Lake County is a county located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of California. The county seat is Lakeport. The county takes its name from Clear Lake, the dominant geographic feature in the county and the largest natural lake wholly within California.
Lake County comprises the Clearlake, CA Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Mendocino-Lake, CA Combined Statistical Area. It is in the California Central Valley.
The county government is centered in the county seat of Lakeport, located in the middle of the county. The county government provides services such as law enforcement, health and social services, libraries, and parks and recreation. Other services such as fire protection, building inspection, and road maintenance are provided by local agencies.
The county has a total area of 1,329 square miles (3,444 km2), of which 1,256 square miles (3,254 km2) is land and 73 square miles (190 km2) (5.5%) is water.
The county is home to several Native American tribes, including the Pomo, the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake, the Konkow Valley Band of Konkow Indians, the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians, and the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians.
Lake County is served by several state highways, including State Route 20, State Route 29, and State Route 53. The county is also served by several airports, including Lake County Airport and the Clear Lake Airport.
The county is home to several educational institutions, including the University of California, Davis and the Clear Lake campus of Santa Rosa Junior College. The county is also served by several school districts, including Lakeport Unified School District, Upper Lake Union Elementary School District, and the Kelseyville Unified School District.
