Washington State conducts all elections entirely by mail, making the vote-by-mail system the standard for Valley residents. Voter registration in Washington can be completed online at https://voter.votewa.gov through the Secretary of State's VoteWA system, by mail using a registration form, or in person at the Stevens County Elections Office. The deadline to register for an election is 8 days before Election Day, and online registration closes at 11:59 pm on that day. Washington offers same-day voter registration during the in-person voting period, which begins 18 days before Election Day at the Elections Office. Voters must provide a valid Washington State driver's license or ID number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number. Because Valley is an unincorporated community with no municipal government, there are no Valley-specific city council, mayoral, or municipal ballot measures. Valley residents vote in Stevens County elections for county commissioners, sheriff, prosecuting attorney, assessor, auditor, treasurer, and other county offices; in state legislative elections for Washington State Senate and House of Representatives (District 7); and in federal elections for U.S. President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives (currently District 5). In the November 2024 presidential election, Stevens County reported voter turnout of approximately 70-75%, reflecting strong engagement typical of rural Washington counties. For the November 3, 2026 general election, Valley and Stevens County voters will decide several important races: Washington does not have a U.S. Senate seat up in 2026 (next in 2028), but voters will elect the U.S. Representative for the 5th Congressional District, all members of the Washington State Legislature (State Senate District 7 and State House District 7 positions), Stevens County Commissioner positions, Stevens County Sheriff if the term expires, and other county officials depending on term schedules. Judicial positions may also appear on the ballot. All Washington voters receive their ballot by mail approximately 18 days before Election Day. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day or deposited in an official drop box by 8:00 pm on Election Day. Public election records in Washington include voter registration lists (available for political purposes with restrictions), campaign finance reports through the Public Disclosure Commission (www.pdc.wa.gov), candidate filings and statements, and precinct-level election results. The Stevens County Elections Office publishes unofficial results on election night and certifies results within a few weeks after the election, with detailed precinct results available on the county website.
