How to search Nebraska court cases

JUSTICE is Nebraska's statewide trial court case system, covering the county and district courts in all 93 counties. A one time online search costs $17 and returns up to 30 records; subscribers pay per case viewed.

JUSTICE and the appellate system SCCALES are free at any courthouse kiosk and at the Nebraska State Library and the law libraries at UNL and Creighton.

Divorce files in Nebraska: contents and access

Nebraska dissolutions are district court cases in the county where one party resides, under Neb. Rev. Stat. 42-348, and the clerk of the district court keeps the records. Neb. Rev. Stat. 84-712 lets any interested person examine public records free of charge, and court rule 6-1521 withholds a separate document of birth dates, gender, Social Security numbers and account numbers. The decree with any incorporated settlement is in the public file, along with any Financial Affidavit for Child Support, DC 6:5.2, the child support worksheet attached to every support order under rule 6-1504, and any property statement filed with the clerk.

JUSTICE, the statewide case management system, is searched online through Nebraska.gov; the file itself is examined through the clerk of the district court. The Nebraska asset search page explains what the affidavit and property statement show.

Are court records free?

State court records are usually free to view at the courthouse and often free online, with per-page fees for certified copies. PACER charges $0.10 per page (capped at $3.00 per document), waived under $30 per quarter.

Do sealed cases show up?

No. A sealed case is hidden from the public docket index by court order. Its existence may still be confirmable by number, but documents are not accessible.

What's the difference between civil and criminal court records?

Civil cases involve disputes between parties (contracts, torts, family). Criminal cases are brought by the government. Both are indexed by the same court clerks but tracked in separate sub-dockets.

Can I search every court at once?

Not in one search. PACER covers all federal courts. Most states have a statewide judiciary portal that covers their state courts, but a few require per-county lookups. This page links to Nebraska's official portal.
