Overview

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is Georgia's largest newspaper by circulation and the main paper for the Gold Dome, the Fulton County courts and the federal court in Atlanta. The Augusta Chronicle, founded in 1785, the Savannah Morning News, the Macon Telegraph, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, the Athens Banner-Herald, the Albany Herald, the Gainesville Times, the Marietta Daily Journal and the Rome News-Tribune cover their regions, and about 150 weeklies serve Georgia's 159 counties, the most counties of any state but Texas.

Georgia newspapers carry the legal notices state law requires in each county's official legal organ, publish obituaries for every county, and preserve court coverage that pairs with Georgia's county based court records.

The Augusta Chronicle covers the CSRA and the Richmond County courts, the Morning News covers Savannah and the port, the Telegraph covers Macon and middle Georgia, and the Ledger-Enquirer covers Columbus and Fort Moore. Each Georgia county designates one newspaper as its legal organ, so weeklies such as the Blackshear Times, the Dahlonega Nugget and the Toccoa Record carry every sheriff's sale, estate notice and county ordinance for their county.
