Overview
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock is the state's dominant newspaper, formed when the Democrat bought the Gazette in 1991, and its Northwest Arkansas edition covers Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville. The Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, the Jonesboro Sun, the Pine Bluff Commercial, the Texarkana Gazette, the Baxter Bulletin and the Log Cabin Democrat in Conway cover their regions, and dozens of county weeklies serve the rest of the state.
Arkansas newspapers carry the legal notices required by state law for foreclosures, estates and delinquent taxes, they publish obituaries for every county, and their archives preserve court coverage that the state's circuit clerks do not keep online.

Legal notices, public notices and obituaries in Arkansas
Arkansas law requires foreclosure notices, notices to creditors in probate, tax delinquent land sales, name changes and city and county ordinances to run in a newspaper of general circulation in the county, and the Arkansas Press Association collects them in a statewide search. Obituaries run in the Democrat-Gazette for central Arkansas and in the regional papers elsewhere, and the Arkansas State Archives keeps an obituary and death notice index for older years. The Democrat-Gazette's court reporting on Pulaski County trials and the federal court is the best public narrative of many Arkansas criminal cases, which otherwise exist only as docket entries.
